Volume One
Shows the development of Marx's thought. Marx based his ideas on material reality. It was the experience of the failed German revolution of 1848, which influenced his thought. This volume includes the famous Communist Manifesto, as well as Marx's unsuccessful attempt to spur the German bourgeoisie to action against absolutism. His articles analyse developments in France, Poland, Prague, Berlin and Vienna.

Volume Two
"In the 1850s and early 1860s, when the workers' movement was still recovering from the defeats of 1848, Marx's prolific journalism from London offered a constant commentary on all significant developments of the day. He began to interpret the British political scene and express his views on Germany, Poland and Russia, the Crimean War and the American Civil War, imperialism in India and China, and other issues. The Class Struggles in France develops the analysis in The Communist Manifesto, while The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte contains reflections on Napoleon's coup in 1851.

Volume Three
The texts of Marx's later years - notably The Civil War in France and Critique of the Gotha Programme - are among his most important works. As well as his analysis of the failure of the Paris Commune, this volume includes essays on German unification, the Irish question, the Polish national movement and the possibility of revolution in Russia. The founding documents of the First International, and his polemical pieces attacking the disciples of Proudhon and Bakunin and the advocates of reformism, reveal a tactical mastery that has influenced revolutionary movements ever since.

Includes:

  • The Communist Manifesto.
  • The Class Struggles in France.
  • The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte.
  • The Civil War in France.
  • Critique of the Gotha Programme.
  • And much more!
